An Overview of Wind as an Energy Source

Wind is one of the cleanest, if not cleanest, renewable energy sources available to us. What most people don't know is it is also the fastest growing energy sector.

Green Generators Wind is an indirect version of solar power. Different surfaces on the Earth react differently to being hit by sunlight, particular in regards to heat. As sunlight heats up surfaces, they warm up at different rates. The surround air also warms up at different rates, fertilizing the wind process. Temperatures over a body of water like a lake will always be cooler than temperatures over rocky ground. Hot air rises and cool air rushes into fill such voids. As this process occurs, the rushing air manifests as wind and an incredibly cheap and clean energy source.

Stateline Wind Facility (Walla Walla County, WA; Umatilla County, OR) Summerview Wind Facility (Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada) Tillamook Animal Waste to Energy (Tillamook, OR) Washington State School for the Blind (Vancouver, WA) Hanford (White Bluffs, WA) The above facilities replace our energy consumption by supplying the power grid with our equivalent energy requirements of 100% green energy from wind and solar energy providers.

Solar Panel The fact that wind is a naturally occurring event makes it a great energy source. Consider the following:

Solar Power Since the early 70's I have been a follower of the development of 'alternatives' to petroleum based energy. Wind, solar, stream these days with hydrogen based energy making exceptional advances these last several years. While many of us have been acutely aware of the need to develop 'new' energy technologies, people in the mainstream are becoming more accepting of the fact that we must find other energy sources to replace petroleum.

Epa Greenpower 1. Wind is a renewable energy source because it will exist as long as sunlight beats down on us.

Instead of perpetuating our dependence on dirty fossil fuel sources, as Conectiv proposed, New Jersey can displace the need for any new power plants by reducing energy waste and developing clean sources of energy like wind and solar power.

Wind Energy 2. Wind has been used by man as an energy source ever since we've sailed boats.

Ecotricity When you sign up to an ecotricity tariff your money goes towards building new sources of renewable energy. The main focus is wind energy, setting up wind parks around the country. The Old Matched Energy tariff uses 100% renewable energy while the New Wind Energy tariff uses a minimum of 10% green energy but contributes a higher percentage of funding towards new wind parks. Ecotricity will also plant a tree for you.

Solar 3. The first windmills were used to turn wheels to grind grain in Iran.

Cleaner Air Solutions provide solar panels, solar PV panels, wind turbine generators, or a combination hybrid system, ie solar PV linked to a wind turbine. eco2solar Solar water heating systems, save money and do your bit for the environment with solar energy that costs less than you think. eco2solar for your home, swimming pool or business. 3KW

Nuclear Power 4. American colonist used windmills to move water, grind grain and cut wood.

Greenpower Inc 5. Wind energy harnessed by windmills was a dominant source of energy in rural America in the 1920s.

Solar Electricity 6. In modern times, California is the biggest user of wind power and produces twice as much electricity as any other state.

Power Greene 7. Modern windmills actually come in two forms, vertical and horizontal models.

Green Electric 8. Horizontal windmills are the stereotypical version that comes to your mind when the word is mentioned.

Am Greenpower 9. Vertical mills look like upside down egg beaters, but are hypnotic when they spin.

Renewable Electricity 10. Unlike traditional utilities, most energy produced by wind is done by private businesses and sold to utilities through an electric grid hookup.

Green Company 11. Wind power in the U.S. generates a whopping 17 billion kilowatts per year, more than enough to provide all electrical needs for the city of Chicago.

Led Greenpower 12. More than 30 states have wind farms generating and supplying electricity to utility companies.

Alternative Energy 13. California, Texas, Minnesota, Iowa, and Wyoming are the dominant forces in producing energy from wind.

Green Products 14. The biggest energy producer from wind is Germany, which is also dominant in solar power production.

Green Powers For many, these wind findings will be a surprise. The sole fact that there is enough power produced by wind energy to handle a city the size of Chicago is pretty impressive. As we move into the 21st century, new technology is heading in the direction of creating wind energy platforms for individual residences.
