Sierra Club Supports NE AG in Bush Administration Suit To Stop Global Warming

Green Generators Boston, MA-The Sierra Club today offered support to Massachusetts, Maine, and Connecticut in their lawsuit against the Federal Government for failure to protect the public from global warming pollution. The three states are suing the Bush Administration to force it to begin tackling carbon dioxide (CO2) because of the threat global warming poses to the health and safety of communities around the world.

%íhat what we take for granted may not be here for our children% Ever since his son was critically injured after being hit by a car, US politician and former Vice President of the United States, Al Gore has taken a close interest in the threat posed by Global Warming. While in office, Gore backed a variety of environmental initiatives, not least being part of the administration that signed the Kyoto Treaty% this was to no avail however, as the US Congress rejected the treaty and the Bush Administration has even suggested since, that Global Warming does not actually exist and has refused to send this back to be ratified.

Solar Panel "The 700,000 members of the Sierra Club applaud these states for stepping up to the plate and telling the Bush Administration that carbon dioxide pollution must be curbed and global warming must be stopped," said Carl Pope, Executive Director of the Sierra Club.

Today's event followed a Win Without War press conference with celebrities held yesterday in Hollywood, CA. Representatives from the National Council of Churches (NCC), the NAACP, National Organization for Women (NOW), Sierra Club, Working Assets and MoveOn.org lent support from their various organizations to the peace effort. "By reducing our dependency on oil, the U.S. can increase our national security and reduce the threat of war, as well as clean up our air and curb global warming, " said Larry Fahn, Sierra Club Vice President. " how to cut our dependence on oil by using energy efficiency, modern technology, and renewable power. Because war has dire environmental and social impacts, the Sierra Club urges the U.S. to let the United Nations inspectors do their job so the parties can resolve the Iraq issue peacefully."

Epa Greenpower Global warming is already a reality around the world. Nine of the ten warmest years on record have occurred since 1990, and last year was the second-warmest year ever. The impacts of global warming will undoubtedly be felt in the Northeast.

"If we were not married and Hillary asked me to do this, to be here tonight, I would be here, " the former president said. In her speech, the New York senator blasted the Bush administration on everything from failure to address problems with global warming to education and the economy. She aimed her sharpest remarks at what she described as the Bush administration's "indifference and incompetence" in dealing with Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.

Wind Energy The cause of this problem is air pollution, and the biggest culprit is carbon dioxide. Levels of CO2 in our atmosphere have increased 30 percent in the past 100 years. Some regions of the world have already warmed by as much as 5 degrees Fahrenheit. In the Northeast global warming may already be causing the spread of infectious diseases and increasing heat-wave deaths. Plants and animals around the world are shifting their ranges in an effort to escape a changing climate.

The Sierra Club and leaders of other influential civic, environmental and faith organizations today announced the creation of a new coalition in support of a peaceful, diplomatic solution to the crisis in Iraq. The new group, Win Without War, represents millions of Americans and seeks to prevent bloodshed and loss of life on all sides by slowing the Bush Administration's apparent rush to war so that U.N. Arms Inspectors have time to carry out their mission.

Solar The good news is there are real, common-sense solutions to global warming. The technology exists to dramatically increase efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide pollution in our cars and power plants, factories and refineries. But it's up to our government to make sure these solutions are implemented. Admitting that carbon dioxide is a hazardous pollutant is an important first step.

An environmental group sued the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Tuesday for delays in forcing power plants and other large air polluters in Georgia to clean up emissions. The suit, filed by the Sierra Club in Atlanta's U.S. District Court, says the EPA has dragged its feet for nearly two years on setting pollution limits in the state. "They should have done it a long time ago, " said Curtis Cox, an attorney with the Georgia Center for Law in the Public Interest who is representing the Sierra Club.

Nuclear Power "It's unfortunate that states must resort to suing the federal government in order to hold the Bush Administration accountable for their failure to act--particularly when technology makes increased efficiency and conservation so attainable," said Pope.

Greenpower Inc The health and safety of our families and communities in New England, across the country, and around the world are at stake. We applaud Massachusetts, Maine and Connecticut for stepping up to the plate and saying that carbon dioxide pollution must be curbed and global warming must be stopped, for our families, for our future.
