Intel president and chief executive officer Paul Otellini has said that his firm as a "commitment to the environment". Mr Otellini's comments come after Intel announced that it purchased 1.3 billion kilowatt hours a year of renewable energy certificates from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). As a result, the firm now heads up the Fortune 500 Green Power Partners list and the EPA's Green Power Partners Top 25 ranking. The president also said that the purchase is...

Solar Panel (AXcess News) Washington - The Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership has grown to 600 partner organizations purchasing more than 3 billion kilowatt hours (KWh) of green power annually, enough to power 300,000 American homes each year.

Stateline Wind Facility (Walla Walla County, WA; Umatilla County, OR) Summerview Wind Facility (Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada) Tillamook Animal Waste to Energy (Tillamook, OR) Washington State School for the Blind (Vancouver, WA) Hanford (White Bluffs, WA) The above facilities replace our energy consumption by supplying the power grid with our equivalent energy requirements of 100% green energy from wind and solar energy providers.

Epa Greenpower "President Bush has asked the nation to diversify our energy supply by promoting alternative and renewable energy sources, and once again, EPA's partners are leading the effort," said EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson. "By making the voluntary decisions to switch to green power, these companies and organizations are helping to decrease our nation's overall dependence on foreign sources of power and demonstrating outstanding environmental stewardship -- defending our health, our environment, and national security."

Wind Energy Green power is electricity generated from environmentally preferable, renewable resources such as mainstream the purchasing of green power electricity generated by renewable energy sources including solar, wind, water (hydro), geothermal, biomass (combustion of organic materials) and biogas (combustion of naturally-produced methane). Green power currently accounts for just 2 percent of America's electricity supply, but voluntary purchasing of renewable energy is accelerating the development of new renewable energy sources. The voluntary green power market currently supports over 2,200 megawatts of new renewable generating capacity.

Solar panels are expensive and, particularly in the UK, inefficient. It usually takes more than a decade for an investment in solar power to pay off and a large amount of space in direct sunlight is required. In the UK climate, effective and productive source of green energy than solar power. In addition, the world's limited supply of silicon can be put to more efficient uses, in computing, for example.

Solar The Green Power Partnership has grown dramatically since it was launched with 21 Founding Partners in 2001. The 3 billion KWh purchased by the partnership has doubled in the past 15 months and grew 10-fold over the past four years. This EPA voluntary program standardizes green power procurement as part of best practice environmental management. Partners in the program pledge to switch to green power for a specified minimum percentage of their electricity needs in return for EPA technical assistance and recognition.

If you're planning to build a new home, you can use some of the bigger aspects of building green. used or recycled building materials, you can lessen the impact that you have. You can also choose environmentally friendly insulation like recycled newspaper or cotton. Try using as many materials as you can that are refurbished and not new. Install heating systems that are powered by solar power and electrical circuits that require wind power, for example.
