Consumers' Lack Of Interest Kills Green Power Programs

Green Generators Green power just never became much of a hit with customers in New Jersey. The state yesterday decided to allow a pilot program to expire this spring in which about 200,000 customers of Jersey Central Power & Light receive electricity from so- called clean energy sources such as solar and wind power.

The other, called the "Renewable Energy Grid Supply Program, " awards large grants for plans to actually implement, on a larger scale, renewable resources within the community. It is this program from which Stellar Energy Systems, or SES, received $2. out of their solar project. In December the BPU submitted a request for proposals for projects and received 14 replies, according to Burnett. Four were approved in July, including two for wind power, one for biomass power (methane gas) and one for solar energy.

Solar Panel Apparently, the program never reached its full allotment of customers. The reason? Consumers were turned off because if they joined the pilot, they could no longer participate in the utility's budget billing plan, in which bills are averaged over 12 months, according to Peter Yochum, with the state Board of Public Utilities.

If you're planning to build a new home, you can use some of the bigger aspects of building green. used or recycled building materials, you can lessen the impact that you have. You can also choose environmentally friendly insulation like recycled newspaper or cotton. Try using as many materials as you can that are refurbished and not new. Install heating systems that are powered by solar power and electrical circuits that require wind power, for example.

Epa Greenpower The program, paid for by a $1 surcharge on all customers' bills, provided the participating households with 10 percent of their power from renewable sources.

Wind Energy Beyond letting the pilot expire, the state agency also has decided to drop plans to begin a separate pilot allowing another 200,000 customers to choose a green power supplier next June. The program was eliminated after officials decided a small surcharge they intended to levy on all customers would not have been enough to make the price of the green power competitive with the electricity they purchase from their utility company, he said

Stateline Wind Facility (Walla Walla County, WA; Umatilla County, OR) Summerview Wind Facility (Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada) Tillamook Animal Waste to Energy (Tillamook, OR) Washington State School for the Blind (Vancouver, WA) Hanford (White Bluffs, WA) The above facilities replace our energy consumption by supplying the power grid with our equivalent energy requirements of 100% green energy from wind and solar energy providers.

Solar "You wouldn't have gotten a whole lot of people switching," Yochum said.

Solar panels are expensive and, particularly in the UK, inefficient. It usually takes more than a decade for an investment in solar power to pay off and a large amount of space in direct sunlight is required. In the UK climate, effective and productive source of green energy than solar power. In addition, the world's limited supply of silicon can be put to more efficient uses, in computing, for example.

Nuclear Power Instead, the state is banking on its New Jersey Clean Energy program to provide a jump start to renewable energy projects in the state. The program provides funds to green energy manufacturers to make their products more competitive with traditional power sources like coal and gas.

Greenpower Inc By the year 2020, the state hopes to have 20 percent of its energy supplies come from renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.
