Greenpeace Says Solar Energy Means Independence

Green Generators Solar energy should be a key component of any U.S. plan aimed at creating energy independence and jump starting the economy, suggests a new study by the conservation group Greenpeace.

Stateline Wind Facility (Walla Walla County, WA; Umatilla County, OR) Summerview Wind Facility (Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada) Tillamook Animal Waste to Energy (Tillamook, OR) Washington State School for the Blind (Vancouver, WA) Hanford (White Bluffs, WA) The above facilities replace our energy consumption by supplying the power grid with our equivalent energy requirements of 100% green energy from wind and solar energy providers.

Solar Panel The study, titled "Solar Promise," illustrates the job creation and pollution cutting potential of solar energy by describing the benefits that states could realize if they install a small solar array on just one of every 100 houses.

The other, called the "Renewable Energy Grid Supply Program, " awards large grants for plans to actually implement, on a larger scale, renewable resources within the community. It is this program from which Stellar Energy Systems, or SES, received $2. out of their solar project. In December the BPU submitted a request for proposals for projects and received 14 replies, according to Burnett. Four were approved in July, including two for wind power, one for biomass power (methane gas) and one for solar energy.

Epa Greenpower "A small investment in solar power would light the way to energy independence, new jobs and reduced pollution for every state in the nation," said Kert Davies, Greenpeace global warming and energy campaign coordinator. "Solar power is safe, practical and clean. And best of all, you don't have to import it or plunder precious wilderness to get it."

Wind Energy Voters in San Francisco handed the solar industry a endorsement Tuesday by passing two ballot measures that provide funding for developing up to 50 megawatts (MW) of solar energy in the city - enough power for 10,000 average homes.

Solar Power Since the early 70's I have been a follower of the development of 'alternatives' to petroleum based energy. Wind, solar, stream these days with hydrogen based energy making exceptional advances these last several years. While many of us have been acutely aware of the need to develop 'new' energy technologies, people in the mainstream are becoming more accepting of the fact that we must find other energy sources to replace petroleum.

Solar "With today's vote, San Francisco has jumped ahead of the nation in starting to build an energy future independent of the whims of the big fossil fuel companies or the utilities," said Danny Kennedy, of Greenpeace's Clean Energy Now! campaign. "California's strong step forward with renewable energy won't mean much if other states don't follow its lead."

Solar panels are expensive and, particularly in the UK, inefficient. It usually takes more than a decade for an investment in solar power to pay off and a large amount of space in direct sunlight is required. In the UK climate, effective and productive source of green energy than solar power. In addition, the world's limited supply of silicon can be put to more efficient uses, in computing, for example.

Nuclear Power A recent Greenpeace report shows the United States is in danger of losing the solar race to other countries in Europe and Asia where governments have taken an active roll in promoting solar energy. In the United States, Greenpeace found major differences between states in terms of the incentives they offer consumers for investing in solar power.

Greenpower Inc States in the Sunbelt were not always the most solar intensive states. For example, New York has more installed solar power than Florida; and Nevada, low on the solar power list now, has major projects planned in the near future.
