EPA Announces New Report on Use of Innovative Technology Programs

Intel president and chief executive officer Paul Otellini has said that his firm as a "commitment to the environment". Mr Otellini's comments come after Intel announced that it purchased 1.3 billion kilowatt hours a year of renewable energy certificates from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). As a result, the firm now heads up the Fortune 500 Green Power Partners list and the EPA's Green Power Partners Top 25 ranking. The president also said that the purchase is...

Solar Panel (AXcess News) Washington - The Environmental Protection Agency is announcing the release of a report that evaluates EPA's stimulation, facilitation, and use of innovative technology programs to further the agency's mission to protect public health and the environment.

The other, called the "Renewable Energy Grid Supply Program, " awards large grants for plans to actually implement, on a larger scale, renewable resources within the community. It is this program from which Stellar Energy Systems, or SES, received $2. out of their solar project. In December the BPU submitted a request for proposals for projects and received 14 replies, according to Burnett. Four were approved in July, including two for wind power, one for biomass power (methane gas) and one for solar energy.

Epa Greenpower The report, EPA Technology Programs and Intra-Agency Coordination, seeks to answer the question of how to optimize environmental technology programs in promoting the research, development, commercialization and implementation of sustainable private-sector technologies. In addition, the report lists recommendations for other programs and activities to promote this goal.

Solar Power Since the early 70's I have been a follower of the development of 'alternatives' to petroleum based energy. Wind, solar, stream these days with hydrogen based energy making exceptional advances these last several years. While many of us have been acutely aware of the need to develop 'new' energy technologies, people in the mainstream are becoming more accepting of the fact that we must find other energy sources to replace petroleum.

Wind Energy "Technological innovation is already a central driver of the U.S. economy. Now businesses are discovering sustainable technology delivers great environmental and economic results," said Dr. George Gray, assistant administrator for EPA's Office of Research and Development. "EPA is pleased to provide tools, like the new Environmental Technologies Portal, to encourage private industry and other parties to turn research on sustainable technology into marketable products."

If you're planning to build a new home, you can use some of the bigger aspects of building green. used or recycled building materials, you can lessen the impact that you have. You can also choose environmentally friendly insulation like recycled newspaper or cotton. Try using as many materials as you can that are refurbished and not new. Install heating systems that are powered by solar power and electrical circuits that require wind power, for example.

Solar The report contains information on all of the EPA's technology programs identified to date (the "Technology Development Continuum") and shows where these programs occur in EPA and how to access them. The report notes two recent successes relevant to optimizing environmental technology programs:

The gentle curves of the Spiral Solar Wind Chime will come alive with the power of the sun, chiming softly to help your day along.

Nuclear Power EPA has developed a broad range of programs and a large store of technology information that is available to the public through the Environmental Technologies Opportunities Web portal at: http://www.epa.gov/etop

Greenpower Inc EPA has committed to implementing the cross-Agency Environmental Technology Council to achieve real-world environmental results through the application of innovative technologies.

Solar Electricity The EPA's administrator established the Subcommittee on Environmental Technology of the National Advisory Council for Environmental Policy and Technology to make recommendations on EPA's use of technology. Numerous representatives from EPA, other government agencies, states, nongovernmental organizations, and the private sector have briefed the subcommittee on many technology issues since 2004.

Power Greene In the future, the Subcommittee on Environmental Technology will report on national and international technology partnerships, EPA technology strategy and management, encouraging demand, communication and outreach, and the extent to which current EPA programs address issues such as sustainability, global warming, climate change, and catastrophic events.

Green Electric The EPA Technology Programs and Intra-Agency Coordination is posted on EPA's Web pages at http://www.epa.gov/ocem/nacept/reports A limited number of print copies will be available from EPA's National Service Center for Environmental Publications (NSCEP) within the next few weeks. To obtain copies, contact NSCEP at 1-800-490-9198 and reference EPA document EPA 100-R-00-021.
