EPA Seeks Comments On Gas Mileage Testing ProceduresGreen Generators In response to a petition submitted to EPA by the environmental organization Bluewater Network, EPA is asking for comments on its testing procedures for determining gas mileage estimates via a notice in the Federal Register. Intel president and chief executive officer Paul Otellini has said that his firm as a "commitment to the environment". Mr Otellini's comments come after Intel announced that it purchased 1.3 billion kilowatt hours a year of renewable energy certificates from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). As a result, the firm now heads up the Fortune 500 Green Power Partners list and the EPA's Green Power Partners Top 25 ranking. The president also said that the purchase is... Solar Panel Each year, EPA's city and highway gas mileage estimates are displayed on new vehicles and appear in the annual Fuel Economy Guide. The purpose of the notice is to obtain feedback on the topics raised by the petitioner who contends that EPA's current testing procedures, which were established in 1985, do not reflect factors that may affect the fuel efficiency of today's vehicles, such as increased highway speeds and urban traffic congestion. This action will have no effect on the fuel economy standards (CAF) now in place and administered by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration. A copy of the notice and the petition can be found at:http://www.epa.gov/otaq/mpg.htm#regs or in EPA Air Docket OAR-2003-0214. It is this program from which Stellar Energy Systems, or SES, received $2. out of their solar project. In December the BPU submitted a request for proposals for projects and received 14 replies, according to Burnett. Four were approved in July, including two for wind power, one for biomass power (methane gas) and one for solar energy. Wind Energy EPA - 3/24/2004 Topic: Transportation} The gas mileage reduction percentages are understated due to the fact that the car is tested in a laboratory. On a dynamometer a car will get much higher gas mileage than on the road. The 2004 Honda Civic got 53 MPG on the Highway in the laborator, and the increase with the Blade was 6%. If the 5 MPG HWY fuel economy increase was calculated against the car%š actual gas mileage, the percentage increase in fuel economy would be closer to 25%. Share this:More about:
